LIFE PHARMA-DETOX
The LIFE PHARMA-DETOX consortium brings together six partners from the pharmaceutical industry, universities, and SMEs across Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, and Italy. Led by Medochemie Ltd (Cyprus), the partners include Aarhus University (Denmark), NEVIS S.A. (Greece), the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), and the Università di Catania (Italy), combining industrial expertise with world-class academic research.
Managing pharmaceutical wastewater is critical: in 2014, over 90% of global wastewater from pharmaceutical industries was discharged untreated, and even in the EU the figure was around 50–60%. Studies over the past two decades show that APIs accumulate in soil, water, and wildlife. Minimizing their presence in surface and groundwater is a key objective of the European environmental strategy, which LIFE PHARMA-DETOX directly supports.
